Favorite Comics Responses to 9/11
9/11 generated some great work by comic artists - many collected in several TPBs. My favorites are William Stout's story "Shoes" in the 9-11: Artists Repond Vol. 1 collection. Makes me wish Stout did more sequential work, rather than just cranking out all those great illustrations. Peter David wrote a great "But I Digress" column in the September 30, 2001 Comic Buyers Guide, about how the comic book world has superheroes to prevent tragedies, but we have to make do on our own. Finally, there was Frank Miller's spare and powerful statement in the Artists Respond: Vol 1 book:
I'm sick of flags.
I'm sick of God.
I've seen the power of faith.
