One Vote at a Time
Ivan's Diary at Daily Kos tells the interesting story of constituents' efforts to pursuade moderate Democrat Adam Smith (D-WA) to withdraw his baffling support for the Bankruptcy Bill. Ivan's letter, Smith's reply, and the account of the meeting that followed make for a good close-up view of the process of representative government as it still functions in some parts of this country.

Program Note
Kitsap Pundit (the estimable Al Hedstrom) has arranged a Seattle blogger get-together this evening at the Pike Place Pub (downstairs in the Market) at 7pm. Unlike the "Drinking Liberally" events hosted elsewhere, Al has opted for a wide cross-section of political opinion and blogging interests, something we here at EA heartily approve of. Among the invitees are Dave (Orcinus) Neiwert, high-tech columnist Paul Andrews, Bird Dog of the highly-readable and mostly-sane right-leaning Tacitus, and Stefan Sharkansky of Sound Politics, a straight-up right-wing bomb-thrower. Not all will attend, but I will. Should make for an interesting evening. These events usually do!
