Anti-Fascists Want Your Money
Just got a note from my pal Dave Neiwert over at Orcinus. His Koufax-winning magnum opus series from last summer, “The Rise of Pseudo-Fascism,” is now available in a collected edition PDF, available for download at his site for a mere $5. As you know if you’ve read even a word of his stuff, Dave is a stone-cold pro who’s been giving away serious, magazine-caliber content on his site for years. “Pseudo-fascism” is quality material: well-researched, well-thought and well-written. It’s easily worth a few measly sheckles, and the proceeds will help Dave keep Orcinus going.
I note wistfully that Dave sent the announcement of his offer to a select group of bloggers, including Atrios, Digby, TalkLeft, Michael Berube, and Max Blumenthal – a-listers all, and deservedly so. And, of course, yours truly, who, since starting EA more than 2 ½ years ago and posting regularly with lengthy, original content, is still clocking in a steady 150-200 hits per day – about what Atrios gets in 20 seconds.
Do I aspire to uber-blog status? Probably not. Seems like it’s more trouble than it’s worth a lot of the time. But occasionally it crosses my mind that it would be nice to have a larger audience, or at least show some growth from the numbers that have, with the exception of bulges for the occasional big-time referrer – held stone steady, week after week, month after month, year after year.
I’m not fishing for complements here. I am exceedingly grateful to those folks who give me a few minutes of their day, and especially to those who chime in with the comments. I’m proud of the diversity of opinion expressed here, and take special pleasure in being the favorite lefty blog of a few intelligent and tasteful conservatives. EA is blogrolled on a number of great sites (listed at right) and hey, I was even nominated for a Koufax. Perversely, they put me in the “best overall blog category,” where I didn’t stand a chance, and left me out of the “wider recognition” list – a list which somehow included Bob Somerby’s Daily Howler, which gets mentioned in the New York Times! How much wider recognition does he need?
Sorry, I’m just ranting here. The Blogosphere is a strange place that runs on its own rules. I’m just a guy with some stuff on my mind and a few minutes to write some of it down. The best I can hope for is that whoever sees it likes what they see – and I know a bunch of you do or you wouldn’t keep coming back.
Go help Dave. People like him are what keeps the Blogosphere running.
