Electoral Prediction
OK, I'm going to lay it on the line here. My prediction is:
Bush 227, Kerry 284 (wins), with Ohio and Iowa too close to call on election night, but it won't matter. To get to this number, I give New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, New Mexico, Washington and Oregon to Kerry, with Missouri, Arkansas, Colorado, Virginia, Arkansas, West Virginia and Nevada to Bush. If NJ and Hawaii, which are the subject of fevered speculation because they are polling so close, actually go to Bush, it means a big night for Bush in any case. Likewise, if Arkansas or Virginia goes to Kerry, it's lights-out for the Prez. See the Electoral Map here to play around with the numbers on your own.
On the popular vote, 49.8% Kerry, 46.9% for Bush. Senate goes 50-50, with Daschle losing narrowly, but Bunning also going down. House is a 5 seat pickup for Dems, not enough to give them control.
I expect to be here, live-blogging, on Election Night. Drop on by for some animated conversation!
