General Interest
I have, on this page, recently declared my support for Howard Dean as the Democratic nominee. However, General Wesley Clark deserves a long look. Last night, he had two very strong appearances on CNN Newsnight with Aaron Brown, and on Hardball with Chris Matthews (transcript not yet posted). He's not only entirely credible in terms of his credentials, but he is very impressive in his presentation and as good on the issues as Dean. If he can turn these qualities into some fundraising magic over the next few months, it is likely he will emerge as the Democrat most likely to beat Bush in 2004 - and that's what it's all about. Can you imagine Clark at the top of the ticket with a running mate like Harold Ford (D-TN) the young, moderate African-American congressman from the border-South? Unless Clark has a big scary skeleton or two in his closet somewhere (note that these links come from a source that considers itself to the left of Michael Moore), the picture just got a whole lot brighter for the Dems.
