Good Day
The terrible regime of Saddam Hussein is finally gone, and it's good to see the Iraqi people have a moment to rejoice and savor freedom before some fresh new hell comes down on them. It's worth celebrating that our military didn't enounter the stiff resistance that the war's biggest critics and biggest proponents warned about, and it's interesting that the "evil" government of Saddam wouldn't, or couldn't, use unconventional weapons even in the most desperate conditions of self-defense. Wouldn't it be a riot if the poor sap actually had complied with the weapons inspections, and that we toppled a government which had, in fact, disarmed to the point that it couldn't even mount a credible defense of its own territory? This is another one of those areas where we are unlikely to ever know the truth.
Now, with the bugaboo gone, we'll see what this whole thing was really about. I'm eager to see the product of Iraqi democracy, and what actually happens to the country's oil wealth. And, of course, we'll see whose face now appears at the center of the bullseye to replace Saddam. This Administration needs its enemies. Fortunately, there are still plenty around to fit the bill.
