More MetaBlogging Thoughts
I was giving some further thought to ways to enable the automatic streaming of story summaries to each others' blogs - always a dangerous proposition, since my knowledge of Web development wouldn't fill a dixie cup. Anyway, here's the basic idea.
- Each participating blogger creates a category called "<blogname>metatag" and enables notification to the server when this category is updated.
- Whenever we post a story, we also post a brief summary and link to the metatag category.
- Members of the community then subscribe to each other's summary feeds (in News), rather than the main story feeds.
- Someone writes a standard block of code that all participants can include on their pages that streams the feeds into a standard, preproduced, "branded" template, assigning each person's feed to a reserved area designated with a graphic icon representing their page (I have some ideas for this too!) and link to their home page.
- Owners of each home page should have some flexibility to customize which feeds they subscribe to, what order the feeds are listed on their page, etc.
Maybe someone out there with a clue could bring this idea into line with reality.
