Is the End Near for Salon?
Very bad news indeed for the patron of our little blog-pond, according to this article from the Seattle P-I today. If Salon goes down, I think it will be pretty clear that independent, commercial content sites on the Web are simply not a viable proposition. I don't think anyone could have done any better than Salon editorially, or in terms of the writing and reporting talent they brought to readers during their heyday. I have no idea about their business decisions, but the fact that they've lasted this long says they were managed better than most other e-business ventures of the Boom. Here's hoping the rumors are once again exaggerated, but just in case they're not...
